         Jim joined OPTIR in August 2000 as Director of Planning and Assessment.  Prior to arriving at Villanova, Jim served eight years as Director of the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium (HEDS), a national organization of 138 independent colleges and universities, including Villanova, which assists member institutions in their institutional research and planning functions.  He continues to serve on HEDS’ Board of Directors. In addition to his work with OPTIR, Jim teaches graduate courses part-time at Villanova.

Active in a number of national and regional professional organizations, Jim is serving as President of the North East Association of Institutional Research during 2001-2002.  He is a regular conference presenter and is a published author.  Jim serves as a reviewer for a number of associations and publications and is a consultant to a variety of organizations.

Jim holds a B.S. degree from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture where he is a past President of the Alumni Association and was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2001.  He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education from Penn State University where he served as a research assistant in the President’s office and at the Center for the Study of Higher Education.  En route to his doctorate, Jim minored in Educational Psychology with an emphasis on evaluation and measurement.

Responsibilities:
One of Jim’s key functions is assisting and advising colleges and departments in assessment related activities.  Jim provides consultation to planners at both the University and college levels and is a major participant in accreditation and certification efforts such as the Middle States and NCAA.  He also offers input to OPTIR’s evaluative research projects. Another key role is coordinating the annual Catholic College and University Institutional Research Forum which is held annually at Villanova University.
